Dewdney Drew is a trade mark attorney with an international, multidisciplinary focus. Originally a lawyer by profession, Dewdney has a broad legal knowledge base to draw on, enabling him to view legal problems holistically.
Dewdney’s legal education includes a BLC and LLB from the University of Pretoria and articles served at the leading South African law firm, Adams & Adams. After qualifying as a lawyer in South Africa, Dewdney joined Murgitroyd in Scotland and retrained as a UK trade mark attorney. Now based in London, Dewdney has an extensive client base of UK and international clients.
Trained in Scotland, Dewdney has a strong grounding in the whisky and beverage industry, as well as in financial services. He has advised some of the largest institutions in the City of London. He is also the founder and manager of the firm’s domain name practice.
Following the move to London, Dewdney has been extensively involved in the music industry, representing numerous well known musicians and bands and providing advice in high profile band name disputes. He is also an advisor to key players in the world of fashion. Other areas of expertise include aerospace (specifically fractional ownership, design work), defence (specifically in the area of vehicles), pharmaceuticals (name clearance) mining (machinery) and energy (clean coal and renewables).
Dewdney was appointed Director of Trade Marks in 2010. His specific responsibilities include the management of the firm’s IP portfolio and domain name practice.
Dewdney is regular attendee at the International Trademark Association annual meeting.
