Jenny Smith
Patent Attorney
Jenny Smith supports our medical devices, engineering and biotech teams. She has experience of prosecuting patent applications for a variety of mechanical devices and medical devices in the UK and Europe, as well as working with patent families covering Japan, China, South Korea, the US, Canada and Australia. Jenny has also been involved with the filing and prosecution of registered design applications.
Jenny has a background in biology, having studied Microbiology for her undergraduate degree. She used biological technology throughout her postgraduate research. A research project to investigate the immune response to artificial hip replacements sparked Jenny’s interest in medical devices, which led her to study Medical and Biological Engineering for her postgraduate studies. Jenny’s MSc included taught modules in engineering and focussed on the study and design of medical devices, tissue engineering. Jenny was lucky to experience the University’s close links with industry which included lab placements and visits. Jenny undertook a PhD, using collagen gels to model spinal cord injuries in response to high velocity impacts. Jenny hopes to further develop her specialism in medical device technology during her career.
Jenny joined Murgitroyd as part of the addition of the UDL team to the Murgitroyd team in October 2021. Jenny is based in our Leeds Office.
