European Patent Attorney
Vicky Pugsley gained extensive research experience, including working at both Edinburgh University and Princeton University, before entering the patent profession. Vicky is a European Patent Attorney. She joined Murgitroyd in February 2019 following the acquisition of Chapman IP by Murgitroyd. Vicky joined Chapman IP in 2010 from a large, London-based firm of patent and trade mark attorneys.
Her technical expertise covers a broad range of physical chemistry and material science-based subjects, including composite materials, building materials, super-alloy turbine blades, medical devices, oil and gas engineering, thermal combustion systems and batteries, and vapour deposition methods.
In addition to filing and prosecuting patent applications and opposition and appeal hearings before the European Patent Office, Vicky’s professional expertise also includes managing trade secrets, as well as providing IP training for inventors and colleagues, and invention harvesting.
Experienced in advising a range of clients, including multi-national companies and local SMEs, Vicky is currently on a long-term secondment at an SME, acting as their in-house counsel.
From an academic perspective, Vicky holds an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, an MSc (Eng) in Materials Engineering from the University of Cape Town, and a PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg in Germany. Her PhD research related to the mechanical properties of hard metal composites. She entered the profession in 2006.
